Yahoo! releases native Messenger and Mail clients for Android

Yahoo! announced the official Messenger and Mail apps for the Android mobile OS platform, enabling Android users connect to the popular service on their phones. However, the apps support only Android 2.0 and above, which is bad news for users who are still stuck at previous versions, including the Sony Ericsson Xperia family of Android phones. The apps can be downloaded through the Android market, free of charge.
services_messenger_an_4“Yahoo! keeps more than 600 million consumers around the world connected to the people and things that matter to them most – wherever and whenever they want,” said David Ko, senior vice president, Americas, audience, mobile, and local for Yahoo! “With the availability of our world-class Yahoo! Mail and Yahoo! Messenger apps for Android, we’re making it easier than ever for consumers to access fast, reliable, and feature-rich Yahoo experiences across some of the fastest-growing platforms in the market” The Mail app is fully loaded and comes with full attachment downloading, photo upload as attachment, rich text formatting, folder management and access to Yahoo! Address book. The Messenger app lets users see their friends’ online status, send instant messages, share pictures from the phone gallery and camera and use emoticons. The app takes advantage of the multitasking abilities of Android and stays connected to the network all the time. Yahoo! also updated its web interface for mail for iPhones and iPad, leveraging the potential of HTML5, the new web standard, to add more features.
