“The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro will both feature an 18:9 display”
Earlier this month, Xiaomi announced that it will be unveiling its first product launch in India for 2018 at an event in New Delhi at 12pm on February 14th. The number “5” in the media invite indicates that the brand might unveil Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus in the country. However, according to speculations, it is, in fact, Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro that will be launched at the event. Moreover, rumour has it that the brand might also launch Mi TV along with the Note series smartphones. You can watch the launch event live in the video embedded below.
As for the Redmi Note 5, it is possible that the handset might be a rebranded Redmi 5 Plus, which was launched in China in December 2017. For the uninitiated, the Redmi 5 Plus comes with an 18:9 display that measures 5.99-inches diagonally and bears full HD+ resolution. There is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor ticking at its core. The handset comes in two configurations – 3GB + 32GB and 4GB + 64GB. In the camera department, the device gets 12MP rear camera and a 5-megapixel selfie camera accompanied by a soft LED flash. The device boots MIUI 9 based on Android Nougat out of the box, and is powered by a 4,000mAh battery. Xiaomi is offering Redmi 5 Plus in hues of Black, Blue, Gold and Rose Gold in China. The handset has been priced at RMB 999 (~Rs 9,800) for the 3GB version and RMB 1,299 (~Rs 12,500) for the 4GB RAM variant.
As for the Redmi Note 5 Pro, we can expect the handset to bring a beefed up spec sheet in the same package. The Mi TV will mark the brand’s debut in the smart TV category in India, and is expected to be priced more affordably than the competition.
We will update you on the Indian pricing and availability at the launch event tomorrow, so stay tuned.
