Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro with Snapdragon 636 and dual cameras launched, prices start at Rs 13,999

Xiaomi today unveiled the successor to the Redmi Note 4 (review) called the Redmi Note 5 (review) in India. In addition, the company has also launched yet another Redmi Note series smartphone called the Redmi Note 5 Pro (first impressions | review). While the Redmi Note 5 brings slightly upgraded features as compared to its predecessor, the Redmi Note 5 Pro boasts significantly better specs. The Note 5 Pro comes with an all-screen front, a dual camera setup at the rear, and a 20-megapixel selfie snapper with a dedicated LED flash unit. While the Redmi Note 5 is the same smartphone that was launched as the Redmi 5 Plus in the China, the Note 5 Pro is a global launch, being introduced for the very first time in India.

Talking about the cameras first, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro flaunts a 12-megapixel primary shooter with an aperture of f/2.2, accompanied by a 5-megapixel secondary snapper with an aperture of f/2.0. On the front, you get a 20-megapixel Sony IMX376 camera with full HD video recording support, an LED flashlight and Beautify 4.0 selfie software enhancements. 

Coming to the other features, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro features a 5.99-inch full HD+ display with a 2.5D curved glass and an aspect ratio of 18:9. The phone is the first in the world to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 SoC, accompanied by Adreno 506 graphics. The handset is being offered in 4GB and 6GB RAM variants, both with 64GB storage. The connectivity features include 4G LTE, dual-SIM slots, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS. A 4,000mAh battery keeps the handset running. The other specs include MIUI 9 based on Android Nougat, a metal unibody design and a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. Xiaomi also says that the Redmi Note 5 will feature face unlock, which will be coming as part of an OTA update by the end of March.

As for the pricing, the Redmi Note 5 Pro’s 4GB RAM variant has been priced at Rs 13,999, while its 6GB model will set you back by Rs 16,999. The phone is available in Black, Light Blue, Gold and Rose Gold hues. It will go on sale on Mi.com and Flipkart and via Mi Homes on February 22nd, followed by availability across Xiaomi’s offline retail network. As part of the launch, Xiaomi is also offering a cashback worth Rs 2,200 and 100 percent additional 4G data for Jio users.
