“Xiaomi is expected to launch the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus at an event in China on December 7th”
The upcoming Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus from Xiaomi have been the subject of a number of leaks and reports lately. We now know that the brand is bringing the 18:9 display to the budget segment with these two handsets. While the launch event for the devices has been set for December 7th in China, it was speculated that the devices would go on sale starting December 11th – Chinese Single’s day. However, according to the latest report, the Redmi 5 duo will go on sale from December 12th.
As per the earlier reports, the Xiaomi Redmi 5 is expected to ship with a 5.7-inch display flaunting an 18:9 aspect and presumably HD+ resolution. On the performance front, there will be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor. It is expected that the smartphone will come in two variants – 2GB RAM + 32GB storage and 3GB RAM + 32GB storage. In the imaging department, it gets a 12-megapixel primary sensor on the back and a 5-megapixel front-facing selfie camera. The battery is expected to be a 3,300mAh unit.
Moving on to the Redmi 5 Plus, it will ship with a larger 5.99-inch display with the same 18:9 aspect ratio and FHD+ resolution. The processor unit is expected to be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625. The variants of the device include 3GB RAM + 32GB storage and 4GB RAM + 64GB storage. On the camera front too, users can expect a major step up as it is expected to come with a 12-megapixel + 5-megapixel dual camera module on the rear panel. The front shooter is expected to remain the same 5MP unit as the Redmi 5. The battery will be a 4,000mAh unit. Both the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus are expected to run MIUI 9 based on Android Nougat.
The recent leak also revealed the pricing of the new devices. The 2GB variant of the Redmi 5 will reportedly cost RMB 699 (~Rs 6,800) and the 3GB version will set you back by RMB 999 (~Rs 9,700). On the other hand, the Redmi 5 Plus is priced at RMB 999 (~Rs 9,700) for the 3GB model and RMB 1,299 (~Rs 12,700) for the high-end version.
