“The Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus are the first Redmi smartphones with bezel-less displays”
Xiaomi had built up a lot of anticipation around its Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus smartphones, and rightfully so. The company recently announced that it will be unveiling the new phones at an event in China on December 7th. And as expected, the handset maker has now gone ahead and launched the duo on its home turf.
Speaking of the Xiaomi Redmi 5 first, the smartphone comes with a 5.7-inch display bearing HD+ resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. The handset flaunts an all-metal unibody design with minimal bezels on the front. There is Snapdragon 450 processor powering the performance of the device. Coming to RAM and storage configuration, the phone will be offered in two variants – 2GB + 16GB and 3GB + 32GB. Coming to the cameras, the handset gets 12MP rear camera with larger 1.25μm pixel size and 5MP selfie camera with soft LED flash. The device boots MIUI 9 based on Android Nougat out of the box and is fuelled by a 3,300mAh battery.
Moving on to the Redmi 5 Plus, the smartphone comes packing a larger 5.99-inch display bearing full HD+ resolution and the same 18:9 aspect ratio. It also gets a bump in terms of performance, as there is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor powering the smartphone. It also comes in two RAM and storage configurations – 3GB + 32GB and 4GB + 64GB. The software and camera setup on the device is the same as its smaller sibling. However, under the rear panel is a bigger 4,000mAh battery powering the handset.
These handsets are being offered in hues of Black, Blue, Gold and Rose Gold. As for the pricing, the 2GB RAM variant of the Redmi 5 is priced at RMB 799 (~Rs 7,800) and the 3GB model comes for RMB 899 (~Rs 8,800). The Redmi 5 Plus on the other hand, will set you back by RMB 999 (~Rs 9,800) for the 3GB version and RMB 1,299 (~Rs 12,500) for the 4GB RAM variant.
