“At this price point, the Xiaomi Mi 3 is the cheapest smartphone fuelled by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 processor”
The popular Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has finally descended upon Indian shores. One of the major reasons for its popularity is that the brand offers top-notch devices with superb build quality and powerful innards at ludicrously low price points. It has brought the same strategy to the Indian market and the first device to be launched from its stable is its current flagship, the Mi 3.
The Xiaomi Mi 3 flaunts a 5-inch pressure-sensitive display bearing a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. The internals of the device include a quad-core Snapdragon 800 SoC clocked at 2.3GHz, coupled with 2GB of RAM. The SoC also comes with Adreno 330 graphics processor for rendering smooth graphics while playing games or high-res videos. For memory, it offers 16GB of internal storage, though you can’t expand it further since the device lacks an expansion slot.
The smartphone is built around a sturdy aluminum-magnesium alloy frame, which manages to be quite sleek at 8.1mm. To keep you trigger happy, the Mi 3 comes with a 13-megapixel camera at the back featuring f/2.2 aperture and assisted by dual-LED flash. The primary camera is capable of capturing full HD videos. For selfies, the device offers a 2MP shooter at the front. The device gets its power from a 3,050mAh battery. The Android 4.4 KitKat OS has been customised with Xiaomi’s proprietary MIUI. The connectivity features included are 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC and GPS.
While all this was already known, what wasn’t clear is how you can purchase the smartphone. That has also been disclosed by the company as it has partnered with India’s leading online retailer Flipkart for selling its devices, which is in line with previous rumours. Pre-registration for the device begins today, and will continue for a week. The phone will go on sale on July 22nd. All in all, the device is a great buy, especially at the mouth-watering price of Rs 13,999.
