“The Mi Max 2 flaunts Android Nougat, a huge display and a Snapdragon 625 SoC”
After unveiling the Mi Max 2 in China in May, Xiaomi has finally launched the phone in the Indian market. The brand’s latest phablet comes as a successor to the last year’s Mi Max (review). Similar to its predecessor, the Mi Max 2 also flaunts a metal unibody design and ‘hidden’ antenna bands located at the top and bottom edges of the back panel. The Android Nougat-powered offering also sports a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. The device will also be getting a split-screen feature as an update.
Coming to the other specs, the Xiaomi Mi Max 2 flaunts a 6.44-inch full HD display, featuring 2.5D curved glass and a layer of Gorilla Glass 3 for protection. The device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor, mated to 4GB of RAM. The phone is available in China in 64GB and 128GB variants, but the brand has only launched the former in India. There’s expandable storage option of up to 128GB is available on board as well.
The camera department includes a 12MP rear snapper with Sony IMX386 sensor, PDAF and an LED flash, and a 5MP front shooter. The connectivity options include 4G LTE, dual-SIM slots, VoLTE, infrared, and USB Type-C with OTG. A massive 5,300mAh battery keeps the handset alive, and features Quick Charge 3.0 as well as Parallel charging. Thanks to this, the battery can be charged up to 68 percent in an hour.

The Xiaomi Mi Max 2 has been priced at Rs 16,999, and will be available in a single black hue. The phablet will be available to buy via special sales via Mi.com and Mi Home store on July 20th and 21st, before going on open sale starting July 27th across the brand’s online and offline networks. The company will also be selling accessories for it, including a flip case. The brand has partnered with Reliance Jio to offer 100GB of additional 4G data on the latter’s network.
