Xiaomi Mi 7 leaked firmware reveals an OLED panel and Always-on Display

Earlier this month, the folks over at XDA Developers obtained the alleged firmware files for the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S smartphone. The source revealed some details about the key specifications of the Chinese tech giant’s upcoming nearly bezel-less flagship. Now, XDA Developers has managed to get its hands on the purported firmware files of the Xiaomi Mi 7 flagship. After going through the software files, the source has managed to leak a few interesting tidbits about the phone.

According to XDA, within the firmware files, it has been found that the Xiaomi Mi 7 will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor. This was already confirmed by the brand earlier. The files reveal that the phone will boot Android 8.0 Oreo-based MIUI 9 ROM out of the box. There’s also an explicit mention of the handset having an OLED display, which is in line with the earlier reports.

One of the most interesting things the source found in the firmware files for the Mi 7 is the mention of always-on display (AOD) feature. It appears that the Mi 7 will be the company’s first smartphone to come with this feature. The files suggest that the always-on display will show the time, date, battery level and up to three notification badges on the lock-screen, when the screen is turned off.

Furthermore, the firmware files suggest that the Xiaomi Mi 7 will feature dual cameras and support for two SIM slots. The phone will come with real-time Bokeh in the camera app and Electronic Image Stabilisation. The other leaked specs include an IR blaster, audio technology from Dirac, NFC support, Qualcomm’s aptX and aptX HD Bluetooth audio codacs and a 3,170mAh battery, which is less than the 3,350mAh battery on its predecessor.

Early rumours had suggested that the Xiaomi Mi 7 will be unveiled at the upcoming MWC 2018. However, the latest reports suggest it won’t likely be the case.
