Splashtop has developed a new app that will allow iPad users to run the Consumer Preview of Windows 8 on their iPads. Known for providing remote access solutions, the firm is primarily targeting developers who wish to develop apps for the Windows 8 platform and also happen to be iPads owners but do not wish to spend money purchasing a Windows tablet. Not only the Metro interface, but also the native touch gestures of Windows 8 like pinching to navigate through folders, apps, files and data using Semantic Zoom, swiping to view the Charms menu, swiping down to bring up other menus, etc can be replicated exactly on the iPad.
The Win8 Metro Testbed app can be purchased from the Apple iTunes Store for $24.99 (around Rs.1,300). However, this is the limited offer price. The price is expected to double to $49.99 (approximately Rs. 2,600) by the time the offer expires. To setup this app, you need to install the iPad app in addition to a Splashtop Streamer software on your Windows 8 PC. Once the security verification is completed, you can enjoy the Windows 8 Metro UI on your iPad.
Windows 8 requires nominal requirements for your PC – a 1.6GHz processor would do well enough combined with 1GB memory.
Users can also test Windows 8’s performance as an OS for tablets. Splashtop has also developed other iPad software, including the Splashtop XDisplay which lets users transform their iPad into a secondary display for their PC.
