The month of October, in India, is that time of the year when festivities are in full swing and shoppers throng both online and offline stores. Keeping this in mind, most handset makers line up their new launches around this time of the year and 2017 is no different. From Motorola to Apple, most major brands have launches lined up this month. However, it’s interesting to note that we’re likely to see quite a few flagship launches with an occasional mid-range or budget handset next month. Moto X4

Unveiled at the IFA consumer electronics show in Berlin, the Moto X4 is expected to be released in the month of October. While earlier, it was supposed to launch on October 3rd, and it’s been delayed, but we still hope that it’ll be available to buy before Diwali. The X4 is a mid-range offering from the brand, and comes with a 12MP + 8MP dual-camera setup on the rear. On the front panel is a 16MP camera, which has been equipped with f/2.0 aperture and a front LED flash unit. The metal and glass device gets IP68 certification and flaunts 5.2-inch full HD AMOLED display at the fascia. Driving the performance is a 2.0GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 processor, mated to Adreno 508 graphics. The smartphone is being offered in two variants viz. 3GB RAM / 32GB storage and 4GB RAM / 64GB storage. As is the trend with Moto devices, this one too comes with Android 7.1 Nougat in its stock rendition.

Nokia 8

While the brand has already launched the Nokia 8 in India, the handset will only be available starting October 16th on Amazon and select brick-and-mortar stores. Those who are interested in buying the handset will have to shell out Rs 36,999. The flagship comes with Series 6000 aluminium unibody design with IP54 certification. The spotlight on this handset is hogged by the pair of 13-megapixel cameras at the back with Carl Zeiss optics, which comes with a number of features. The Android Nougat handset is powered by a 2.35GHz Snapdragon 835 processor, mated to 4GB of RAM. It comes with a 5.3-inch display bearing Quad HD resolution with a Gorilla Glass 5 protective layer on top. Other salient features of the device include 4G VoLTE, NFC, and a 3,090mAh battery.

Google Pixel 2 / Google Pixel 2 XL

One of the most awaited launches of the year and strong contenders for the “best Android smartphones of the year” title, the Google Pixel 2 and Google Pixel 2 XL are also slated to be unveiled next month. According to the leaks and speculations, these handsets will see light of the day on October 4th. The leaks suggest that these handsets will feature the same dual-tone design from last year with improved IP68 certification. Under the hood, the duo is expected to draw power from Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, 4GB RAM and available in two storage options of 64GB and 128GB.

Xiaomi Mi Mix 2

The successor to the smartphone which brought the all-screen front to the mainstream, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 was launched recently in an event in Beijing, China. As per the brand, the handset is slated to land in India soon (read October). The smartphone comes with a 5.99-inch display with an 18:9 aspect ratio that flaunts a screen-to-body ratio of 95 percent. With four-sided curved ceramic body, the handset runs MIUI based on Android Nougat. Coming to the core specs, the device features the top-of-the-line Snapdragon 835 SoC, which is mated to 6GB of RAM. The camera department gets a 12MP Sony IMX386 sensor with 4-axis OIS and a 5MP camera on the front panel. For battery, the device gets a 3,400mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0. While the Indian pricing of the handset is not known yet, it starts approximately at Rs 33,000 in China.

Honor’s new smartphone

The Chinese handset maker is gearing up to launch an India-specific smartphone in the month of October as well. However, the brand has not yet revealed the name or the core specs of the device. But it did start a contest called ‘See Yourself With Two Eyes’, which hints toward a dual-camera setup. Moreover, the brand has confirmed that the smartphone will be launched at an event to be held on October 5th in India.

These are the top smartphones that are lined up for a launch in India in the coming month. Apple will also start taking pre-orders for the iPhone X starting October 27th, but the device will only start shipping from November 3rd onwards.
