This year, we’ve seen a spate of devices with superior front cameras being launched, and companies haven’t been shy about using the ‘selfie phone’ branding. If you’re in a market for an affordable selfie smartphone, here’s a roundup of the top five devices priced below Rs 15,000.
Lava Iris X5 (Rs 8,390)
In September, Lava introduced the Iris X5, its first selfie smartphone. The device features a 5MP front camera with autofocus, an Omni BSI+ sensor and 84-degree wide-angle lens. As a special addition, it is also accompanied by an LED flash for illumination. The remaining specifications include a 5-inch HD display, 1.2GHz quad-core chipset, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal expandable storage, 8MP primary camera and a 2,100mAh battery. The device supports dual-SIMs and runs Android 4.4 KitKat.
Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime (Rs 13,970)
The Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime is an affordable smartphone with a front camera that’s well suited to taking self portraits. The snapper features 5MP resolution with an ultra-wide 85-degree viewing angle to get more people into the frame. The smartphone also features an 8MP primary camera with an LED flash. Other features include a 5-inch qHD display, 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage expandable via microSD, and a 2,600mAh battery. The dual-SIM smartphone runs Windows Phone 8.1.
Karbonn Titanium Octane Plus (Rs 11,990)
The Karbonn Titanium Octane Plus (review) features a high-resolution 8-megapixel front camera that’s ideal for both selfies and video calls. The device also sports a 16MP primary camera with LED flash. The remaining specificiations are pretty high-end too, and include a 5-inch full HD display, a 1.7GHz octa-core MediaTek processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of expandable flash storage, dual-SIM, Android 4.4.2 KitKat and a 2,000mAh battery.

The recently-launched Alcatel OneTouch Flash has a 5-megapixel autofocus front camera, equipped with a beauty mode for better selfies. Other specifications include a 5.5-inch HD IPS display, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal expandable storage, a 3,200mAh battery and Android 4.4.2 KitKat.
