Top iOS apps and games of the week #33

Don the robes of an ace lawyer, harness the power of the elements in a new puzzle RPG, or battle it out in the arena with your favourite WWE superstars in this week’s top iOS games. Photography apps ruled the roost on the app front yet again, with options to create animated GIFS, professional time lapses and even custom-designed photo filters.

Camoji is a fun new app that lets you create and send animated GIFs and memes via iMessage. All you need to do is hold to record a GIF-like image, tap to add a caption or an emoji sticker, and swipe up to send. The gesture-based interface lets you press and hold to save a ‘Camoji’ to your clipboard, swipe right to share to Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, and left to flip the camera around while you’re recording.

Yahoo Mail_iconYahoo Mail (Free) {Update}

Yahoo Mail’s latest update is now available for users in India. The app now displays a panel at the bottom of the screen with icons for Mail, News and Today. You can switch between them with a simple swipe gesture, without leaving the app. The News tab displays important stories from around the world in a visual news stream, while Today shows you information like local weather, stocks, sports and a daily digest.

Time Lapse_iconTime Lapse! (Rs 120)

If you’ve ever wanted to create time lapses using your iPhone or iPad’s camera, Time Lapse! is a useful new app that lets you do just that. You can choose the interval duration for which you want to record, going from 0.5 seconds all the way up to 60 seconds. The app lets you tap to set focus or exposure and pinch to zoom while recording. Time Lapse! also displays real-time previews and records in full HD.

Popular messaging app LINE has launched B612, a new selfie app for iOS.  The app offers a choice of 43 filters, and suggests a random filter for when you can’t choose. You can edit your selfies by tweaking vignette and adding tilt-shift blur effects, and even create collages. You can enable a silent shutter (in case you don’t want people knowing how narcissistic you really are), and share photos to Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Vibrance_iconVibrance (Free)

Most photo-editing apps offer a selection of filters, but you may not always get the results you want. Vibrance lets take creative control of your images by letting you create your own filters. You can either start from scratch, use one of the several built-in filters as a base, or import any photo to use its colour palette. You can save, rename and even share your filters with other users.

Phoenix Wright_iconPhoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies (Free)

The original Nintendo 3DS title, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies is the latest in the series to be ported to iOS. The game lets you play as the ruthless lawyer Phoenix Wright, as he rips apart witness testimonies to reveal the truth. You’ll have help from Apollo Justice, whose ‘Perceive System’ lets you pinpoint when a witness is lying, and Athena Cykes, who uses her ‘Mood Matrix’ skill to sense discord in a person’s emotions. The game features a total of five episodes, with the first one available for free.

Spellfall_iconSpellfall (Free)

Spellfall is a new puzzle RPG game, which requires you to match tiles to defeat evil monsters. The tiles represent five elements – earth, water, wind, fire and lightning ­– and you’ll have to match a minimum of three tiles to cast your spell. As you progress, you’ll be rewarded with better weapons, magical abilities and new powers to help you defeat bigger monsters.

WWE Supercard is a new collectible card game that will put you in the arena with your favourite WWE Superstars, Divas, Legends and Managers. You can customise your own team choosing from over 400 collectible cards with seven different rarity levels. You’ll need to combine, train and upgrade your cards to unlock their full potential. The game offers single and multi-player modes, rewarding you with cards of varying rarity depending on how you perform.

Accidental Spelunking_iconAccidental Spelunking (Free)

An endless runner game with a twist, Accidental Spelunking is an Indiana Jones-inspired adventure that will have you falling endlessly through a mine. While the little explorer is plunging into the depths of the abyss, you’ll need to tilt your device to help him gather coins, find power-ups and avoid barriers. The game adds in ‘ragdoll physics’, which intentionally delays movement and makes control difficult. To make his journey easier, you can temporarily turn on the mine’s lights or activate the power drill.

A 2D space adventure with a comical twist, in Bik you’ll play as a young boy who’s been abducted by aliens while on a camping trip. You’ll eventually make your escape after helping two friendly aliens, and attempt to find your way back home. Along the way, you’ll take up missions to outsmart hijackers, find a missing alien, and even save a planet, while eating brownies and making sandwiches in the process. The story driven point-and-click adventure features retro-style graphics, over 90 minutes of original music and several puzzles.
