This week, Apple released the iOS 8.4.1 update for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch users to fix various bugs plaguing Apple Music. On the sidelines, we’ve shortlisted a range of exciting new games and interesting apps to keep you busy over the Independence Day weekend.
Yahoo LiveText (Free)
Last month, Yahoo! launched a new video messenger called LiveText in select markets. The app is now available to download globally. Unlike conventional video calling apps where you talk to the other person, LiveText is a silent video-calling app, where you communicate by texting. The app is completely free to use, and you can add friends by using their LiveText ID, or scanning your address book to search for contacts.
RNI Films (Free)
RNI Films is a photo-editing app that lets you add authentic 35mm analogue effects to your images. It features realistic film stock filters divided into categories like negative, slide, instant, black & white and vintage. The app also features image adjustment tools like brightness, contrast, colour, shadows, highlights, vignette, crop and rotate. Once done, you can share your photos directly to Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
Google Search (Free)
Google Search for iOS has received a notable update in v7.0. You can now say ‘Ok Google’ to ask a question when you’re on a webpage, and get smart answers about the content you’re looking at. For example, if you’re reading an article on William Shakespeare, you can say “Ok Google, where was he born?” to get an answer. Additionally, the update brings more detailed search results, and adds support for copy and paste from anywhere within the app.
The Path to Luma (Free)
The Path to Luma is an adventure puzzle game where you’ll play SAM, a robot sent by the Chroma civilisation to save abandoned planets by discovering clean sources of energy. You’ll get to explore 20 different worlds, deploying various forms of clean energy such as solar and wind power to save planets that have been impacted by climate change. The game features simple one-touch controls, challenging puzzles and detailed 3D graphics.
Monsters Ate My Metropolis (Free)
In this turn-based card battle game, you’ll get to play as giant monsters as you attempt to take down other players’ large cities. You’ll be able to unlock various monsters, each with their own special attacks, bonuses and bluffs. The game features over 100 attack cards, and you’ll be able to use and upgrade them to build your Monster and City decks. The game features weekly tournaments and leaderboards, and five leagues of varying difficulty you can compete in.
Sputnik Eyes (Rs 120)
A deceptively cute puzzle game, in Sputnik Eyes your job is to help a group of little robots find a new planet. In order to examine and explore each planet, you’ll need to make sure each robot is on its matching-coloured position. The game features over 60 handmade levels, and a handful of randomly generated ones too.
Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 (Rs 300)
In the iOS port of the PC classic Rollercoaster Tycoon 3, you’ll get to create the theme park of your dreams. You’ll get to choose from five themes – Generic, Spooky, Western, Adventure and Sci-fi – and play through all 18 scenarios of the original PC game. By ensuring your guests are happy, you’ll earn more money, which you can use to expand and grow your park. The game features fully controllable cameras, a Coaster Cam for a front-row view on rides, challenging objectives and detailed visuals.
March of Empires (Free)
March of Empires is a new multiplayer strategy game of epic proportions. You’ll get to choose from three factions – Highland King, Northern Czar or Desert Sultan – as you establish your kingdom, manage huge armies and conquer other territories. The game features a massive alliance management system, where you’ll get to make allies, conduct diplomatic talks, and build regional structures you can mutually benefit from. You’ll also get to engage in tactical battles, choosing your military formations and taking advantage of the changing weather conditions. On the side, you’ll get to build a prosperous nation, establishing trade centres, temples, stockpiles and more.
