“Here are the top smartphones which users searched for in the month of June”

With new smartphones being released almost every day, our monthly list of the Top 20 mobile phones is our attempt at digging up the devices that have actually caught consumer imagination. We do so by taking a look at the most-searched phones on 91mobiles in a particular period. While the list is not necessarily an indicator of sales, it does give an idea as to which phones got users excited. Today, it’s time to see which smartphones were the most popular in the month of June.

The top 5

The Samsung Galaxy J6 has managed to rise in popularity to usurp the Vivo V9 (review) from the first spot, pushing the latter to the fourth place. The Redmi Note 5 Pro (review) has also increased in popularity levels, while the Galaxy J8 has made a stunning debut at the third seating. As far as the chart-toppers are concerned, it seems to be Samsung’s show as the fifth spot is held by the brand’s Galaxy A6+ (review).

The complete list

The changes can be seen in the entire chart of top 20 smartphones as well. A number of new entrants have found a spot in the coveted list, resulting in the exit of some notable phones. Let’s take a look at the top handsets, wherein we’ve also mentioned the change in ranking, price segment and the month of launch for each of the device.

Top 20 mobile phones in India in June 2018

Hits and misses

Samsung Galaxy J8: 3rd position

Launched recently, the Galaxy J8 (first impressions) has made an impressive debut and is ranking high on the popularity charts. This might be because of the fact that the J8 brings specs like an Infinity Display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 450, 4 gigs of RAM, and dual cameras – which are also available on the A6+ – and is priced attractively at Rs 18,990.

Samsung Galaxy J8 UFI 09

Xiaomi Redmi Y2: 10th position

Taking the fight directly to OPPO and Vivo, Xiaomi launched the selfie-centric Redmi Y1 last year. Its successor, the Redmi Y2 (review), takes that legacy forward in a bezel-less avatar. The smartphone also brings dual rear cameras and an octa-core Snapdragon 625 chipset.

Vivo Y83: 11th position

The Y83 is the first smartphone in the world to be powered by MediaTek’s Helio P22 chipset. The 12nm SoC brings AI capabilities and is coupled with 4GB RAM. Vivo’s offering also comes with a bezel-less display with a notch up top, and sports a 13MP rear camera and an 8MP selfie shooter.

Xiaomi-Redmi-5-17

Xiaomi Redmi 5: 14th position

The Redmi 5 (review) is Xiaomi’s most affordable smartphone with an 18:9 display. Armed with a 5.7-inch HD+ screen, the handset draws power from Snapdragon 450 processor which is clubbed with up to 4GB of RAM, depending upon the storage variant you opt for.

Samsung Galaxy J6 64GB: 20th position

It wouldn’t be wrong to say that the newly-launched phones in the Galaxy J series are helping the brand to win popularity back from Xiaomi. We’re saying that because the J6’s (review) base variant is at the top spot, while the 4GB RAM model has also made its debut in the top 20 list.

The exits

  • Xiaomi Mi A1
  • Huawei P20 Lite
  • Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro 6GB RAM
  • Honor 7X
  • Apple iPhone X

Trend analysis

Samsung closely follows Xiaomi

No of devices by brands in the top 20 list in July 2018

Expanding the aforementioned point, Samsung has been able to get popular on the back of the success of the recently-launched Galaxy J series. While Xiaomi still continues to be popular with five devices listed in the top 20 chart, the South Korean giant sits at second place with four offerings. Interestingly, Vivo has also started ranking high as it has three phones listed in the chart. All the other brands have one smartphone each in our list, except for Nokia, which has two handsets.

Bezel-less smartphones rule the charts

It was only last year that bezel-less phones or the handsets with taller, 18:9 or more displays came to the fore. But now, these phones have become really popular as almost the entire list of top 20 phones feature slimmer bezels, except for the 10.or G and the Xiaomi Redmi 5A (review).

It’s certainly interesting to see Samsung getting back on its feet. What remains to be seen however, is whether the Chaebol will be able to maintain this, so make sure to check back next month to check out the most popular phones in India in the month of July.
