The world’s first mobile phone, a prototype used by  Martin Cooper (a Motorola researcher), measured a whopping 13cm in terms of overall thickness, and weighed more than a kg. We’ve certainly come a long way. The Gionee Elife S5.5 is nearly 24 times slimmer in comparison, and measures just 5.5-millimeters in terms of overall thickness.

Even slimmer than a regular pencil, this smartphone has been built using metal and glass which ensures that the device is as sturdy as it is slim and good looking, while weighing in at under 150 grams. We’re sure that this record will be beaten though – it’s only a matter of time.
