Sunstrike Telecom launches the OPS 80D Android smartphone in India

Hong Kong-based Sunstrike Telecom has launched the OPS 80D, a dual-SIM Android smartphone available exclusively in India. The device is part of Sunstrike’s OptimaSmart series of smartphones and tablets. The company is already present in the country with its ‘Rage’ brand of feature phones. The OPS 80D sports a 5-inch FWVGA screen, which puts it in the phablet category. The device measures 143.4x74x10mm, and weighs 170 grams. It runs on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. The company hasn’t given too many details about the exact specifications of the phablet. We know that it runs on a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, but are unclear on which brand has manufactured the chipset. Also, the company’s website mentions a quad-core processor, so we don’t know which one is accurate. The processor is paired with 512MB of RAM, which is quite low by smartphone standards. Internal storage is 4GB, and is expandable up to 32GB via a Micro SD card. The 8MP rear camera with flash is quite impressive, but the phablet disappoints with a 0.3MP VGA front camera. We would have expected at least a 2MP camera. Connectivity options include 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Micro USB. The phone offers Dual Band (GSM+GSM) network and is fitted with a 2200 mAh battery. The company has mentioned that the phone ‘supports’ a variety of applications like Facebook, Gmail, The Times of India, Google Chrome, Opera Mini, eBay and WhatsApp, all of which are standard with Android devices. We do not know whether they will come pre-loaded on the phablet. The OPS 80D will be available in black and white colour options, with a metallic finish. Pricing has not been announced as yet, although we expect it to get a sub-Rs 10,000 price tag. We’ll update you with more details as soon as the company shares them with us.
