The Sony Xperia Tipo, which is so far the only Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich smartphone in the entry level segment by the company is all set to receive the 4.1 Jelly Bean update next month. Sony is working on updates for the Xperia Tipo and the Tipo Dual that are priced at around Rs.7,641 to Rs.10,000 and Rs.7,393 to Rs.10,202 respectively.
In its category, the Xperia Tipo is the only device to have a 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. Its competitors such as the Samsung Galaxy Y and LG Optimus L3 are still languishing with the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system.
According to company officials, the Tipo Dual is one of the highest selling Sony devices, and to improve its sales and keep its popularity going, the company has decided to offer the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for this device by next month. With this update, Tipo users will be able to avail the Sony Music app and the Sony Live Mobile TV app.
The Xperia Tipo and Tipo Dual have the same features except the dual SIM feature offered on the Tipo Dual version. Both devices sport a 3.2 inch multi-touchscreen display with Scratch-resistant glass and 320 x 480 pixels resolution. The device has Sony’s Timescape user interface. The device are powered by an 800 MHz Qualcomm Scorpion processor with 512 MB RAM. The device has 2.5GB internal memory that can be expanded up to 32GB via micro SD card. The connectivity options on the device are 3G, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, proximity sensor and gravity sensor. The device is powered by a 1500mAH battery.
The device users might also notice improved battery life after this update. However, we will only know more once the update is released.
