Sony Xperia SP launched for Rs 27490

Sony was already much talked about on the Indian tech streets for the waterproof Xperia Z smartphone and now, the manufacturer has introduced a new device in India under the Xperia hood which has got its name dubbed as the Xperia SP.

Moving on to the specifications of the newly launched Xperia SP, we have a 4.6-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 720 pixels along with a pixel density of 319 ppi. The device is powered by Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 and is scratch resistant with its Corning Gorilla Glass Display Technology.

The Xperia SP is built with an aluminum frame which contributes to its low weight. Inside the aluminum body, there resides a 1.7Ghz Dual-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro MSM8960 processor coupled with 1GB of RAM. The smartphone runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) operating system. It features an 8MP Camera complemented with LED Flash and Exmor RS sensor technology.

The Sony Xperia SP offers an onboard storage of 8GB which may be further expanded externally up to 32GB via Micro SD Card. The connectivity features of the device include 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS with A-GPS and NFC. It gets powered with a 2370 mAh battery.

Sony has priced the Xperia SP at Rs. 27,490 and has rolled it out with Sony Music and Sony LIV Apps for multimedia streaming. At this price point, it is expected to compete with the likes of Samsung Galaxy S3 and HTC One X smartphones.

We will know soon enough how the market will respond to this latest piece of innovation by Sony, especially when it is still reeling in the success of the Xperia Z.
