Samsung’s fourth quarter profit estimated at $8.3bln

The Korean smartphone manufacturer Samsung is expected to report a profit of $8.3billion in the last quarter of 2012. The profit has mainly been driven by the sales of smartphones in the Galaxy series.


Samsung Electronics is one of the major companies in the world that manufacture smartphones and chips. South Korean manufacturer Samsung has been manufacturing A6X microchips and various other products for some of the major companies like Apple.

According to the research firm IHS iSuppli, Samsung is the world’s leading mobile brand for 2012. Its the first time since 1998 that Nokia has lost its number One position in the mobile phone industry. There have been recent rumors of a possibility of Nokia getting acquired by Microsoft. Huawei is also a close competitor in this race of acquiring Nokia.

Samsung alone accounts for 29% of the market share in Global shipments of mobile phones in the year 2012 as compared to 24% in 2011. Nokia’s share in this segment has dipped to 24% in 2012 as compared to 30% in 2011.
