Samsung Galaxy Note9 with 6.4-inch QHD+ display, improved S Pen and 4,000mAh battery breaks cover

“The Galaxy Note9 comes with a new Bluetooth-enabled S Pen stylus”

Samsung has finally unveiled its latest Galaxy Note series flagship in the form of the Galaxy Note9 at an event in New York today. The smartphone flaunts a slightly different design than its predecessor. For starters, the top and bottom bezels of the phone have been reduced further, and its fingerprint sensor has been relocated below the dual primary camera module at the rear. The handset comes bundled with a refreshed S Pen, which now supports Bluetooth connectivity and can also be used as a remote control.

The Samsung Galaxy Note9 flaunts IP68 certification for dust- and water resistance. The phone boasts a 6.4-inch QHD+ curved Super AMOLED display, and will come in two processor variants for different markets – one with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, while the other with an Exynos 9810 processor. There are two RAM and storage configurations 6GB + 128GB and 8GB + 512GB. The Galaxy Note 9 also boasts support for microSD cards up to 512GB in capacity. Out of the box, the handset runs Android 8.1 Oreo.

The Galaxy Note9 continues to sport two cameras at the rear, and the setup is same as the Galaxy S9+ (review). The new phone offers dual 12-megapixel sensors, which feature a dual aperture of f/1.5 and f/2.4. The flagship also features Dual OIS, scene optimiser for intelligent scene detection and flaw detection if the first shot doesn’t come out right. As far as the selfies and video calling is concerned, the smartphone comes equipped with an 8-megapixel shooter with autofocus. For enhanced security, the handset offers an Iris scanner and face unlock functionality.

Coming to the other features, the Samsung Galaxy Note9 comes with a dedicated key for the Bixby assistant. The connectivity features include 4G LTE, VOLTE, NFC, Bluetooth 5.0, dual-band Wi-Fi, and GPS with GLONASS. The phone is fuelled by a beefy 4,000mAh battery that supports quick and wireless charging. Similar to its predecessor, the handset comes with support for Samsung’s DeX desktop platform, but this time, the feature doesn’t require a DeX Pad.

Samsung’s Galaxy Note9 has been priced at $999 (~Rs 68,700) for the base variant and $1,250 (~Rs 86,000) for the high-end model. The pre-orders for the handset will begin on August 10th, and the phone will be available on August 24th in the US. The smartphone is being offered in Midnight Black, Lavender Purple, Metallic Copper colours with a matching S Pen, and Ocean Blue hue with a Yellow S Pen. There’s no official word on the Indian launch and pricing as of now, but the phone is expected to be up for pre-orders starting August 19th in the country.
