Salora is one of the most recent entrants into the Indian smartphone market, especially targeting the budget segment. The company restarted its mobile phone operations with the launch of the Arya Z2 (first impressions) that was launched a couple of months back. And now, the brand is back again with yet another offering in the budget performance segment with the launch of the Arya A1 Plus. The smartphone has been priced at Rs 5,499 at which it offers an interesting hardware and software proposition. Here are our first impressions of the Arya A1 Plus, read on…

While the whole world is moving towards bigger displays, Salora has decided to take a step back and has offered a 4.5-inch display-bearing device, which bodes well for one-handed use. The phone’s display offers 960 x 540 pixel resolution while most competitors are still offering 854 x 480 pixels. The build quality seems good, despite the use of high-density polycarbonate.

To give the device a plush and a premium look, it has been given metallic finish on the edges along with laser-cut metallic keys. The front features a bold black look, on which the flush finish has been ensured with the use of three feather touch keys located towards the bottom. Additionally the keys and the earpiece have been given a red accent, which definitely add to the looks of the device. The phone has been made available in one single colour, and the reason for that is the inclusion of not just one but three differently-coloured back panels in the retail packaging itself. So users would be able to customise the device as per need in no time and without investing any additional money. The back panels feature a matte finish which helps avoid scratches and fade marks. Also, as per the company, a high-quality lacquer paint has been used to coat the back panels ensuring that the colour stay intact for a long time.

Apart from the keys on the front, the Arya A1 Plus features the usual volume rocker key on the left side and the power key on the left. On the top lies the USB port, which shares the spot with the 3.5mm audio connector, while the bottom has been left untouched.

Salora has made use of Android KitKat 4.4 as the operating system for this device. On top of stock Android, the brand has layered its very own custom user interface for ease of use and has offered a number of pre-loaded applications tool. Interestingly, the phone is ready to receive the Android Lollipop 5.0 upgrade as well and the company promises that the same is in the pipeline.

Last but not the least, the Arya A1 gets dual snappers with a 5-megapixel unit at the back and a 2-megapixel unit on the front. The primary camera is supplemented by an LED flash for illumination during low-light conditions and comes with full HD resolution video recording as well, while the front cam supports HD video recording. And to power this device up, the company has made use of a 2,000mAh battery pack which should ideally be good enough for a day’s worth of usage for most average users.

This pretty much sums up the first impressions of the new Salora Arya A1 Plus, which seems like a worthy budget performance Android smartphone. However, we are awaiting the device at our labs for a comprehensive review and a full report on its performance and capabilities.
