Earlier today we were left wondering what’s next for the entry level 4G VoLTE segment after Vodafone tied up with Micromax to offer cashbacks on select 4G smartphones. As if on a cue, Reliance Jio has now come together with Xiaomi to offer the Redmi 5A (first impressions) at an effective price of Rs 3,999. For the uninitated, Xiaomi launched the its entry-level smartphone earlier today for a starting price of Rs 4,999.
Xiaomi has partnered with the telecom operator to offer a Rs 1,000 cashback only on the base variant of the device with 2GB RAM. This brings down the effective price of the handset to Rs 3,999. The telecom operator has also launched a special plan exclusively for Redmi 5A users. The monthly pack has been priced at Rs 199 and offers benefits like unlimited voice calls and SMS, 1GB data per day and Jio apps for 28 days. Users will need to recharge this plan every month for 12 months to get the Rs 1,000 cashback, which will be provided in the form of 10 vouchers worth Rs 100 each.
To recap on the Redmi 5A, the handset ships with a 5-inch display that has a resolution of 1,280 x 720 pixels. Moving on to the performance, the handset is powered by a Snapdragon 425 SoC. It is being offered in two configurations – 2GB RAM + 16GB storage and 3GB RAM + 32GB storage. On the imaging front, there is a 13-megapixel primary camera with LED flash and Phase Detection Auto Focus (PDAF), and a 5-megapixel front snapper for selfies. It runs MIUI 9 based on Android Nougat and is powered by a 3,000mAh battery.
Available in three hues – Dark Grey, Gold and Rose Gold, the device will be available on Mi.com, Flipkart and Mi Homes across the country starting November 7th, and across Xiaomi’s offline partners soon after.
