Festive season is right around the corner and companies have started giving discounts and offers to woo the customers. Samsung has taken the lead by dropping the price of two of its upper mid-range smartphones. The devices are Samsung’s previous flagship- Galaxy S3 and variant of this year’s flagship- Galaxy S4 Mini and both have gotten a price cut of Rs. 4000. This means, that Samsung Galaxy S3 can now be bought at Rs. 25,400, whilst the Galaxy S4 Mini will carry a price tag of Rs. 23,360 at Samsung’s Official Store. The devices are available even cheaper at some e-commerce portals.
As a refresher, Galaxy S3 is one of the best selling mobile phone and even though it’s been superseded by its successor the Galaxy S4, it packs some good configuration. It has a 4.8 inch display with resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels and is powered by a 1.4 GHz quad-core processor. In terms of memory, it has 1 GB of RAM and storage capacity of 16 GB with further expansion of up to 32 GB via microSD card. For shutterbugs, it comes with an 8 MP camera with LED flash at the back and a 1.9 MP secondary camera for video calling needs. It scores full marks on connectivity features and is loaded with Android 4.0 ICS platform customized with TouchWiz UI. The OS is upgradable to JellyBean 4.2 and it will also bring some of the software enhancements seen on Galaxy S4. It’s provided juice by Li-ion battery of 2100 mAh.
The Galaxy S4 Mini, on the other hand, is the smaller sibling of Samsung’s flagship this year- Galaxy S4. It sports a handy 4.3 inch screen with qHD resolution (960 x 540 pixels) and a dual-core processor clocked at 1.7 GHz. In memory department, it has a 1.5 GB of RAM and in-built storage of 8 GB which can be expanded to 64 GB via microSD card. It sports an 8 MP primary camera with dual LED flash and a 1.9 MP front-facing camera for video calling purposes. For connectivity, it has 2G/ 3G dual SIM connectivity, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, NFC and GPS. The device runs on Android 4.2.2 JellyBean OS. A battery of 2100 mAh fuels the device.
It’s an interesting move from Samsung as in the name of festive offers, company can expect good sales of these devices since the S3 has been around for more than a year, and the S4 Mini has not met with much success.
