“For its asking price, the P100 is packed to the gills with features”

Since its entry in the Indian smartphone industry, Japanese electronics major Panasonic has made its name in the budget and mid-range. However, with its P-series of devices, it went even lower in terms of the pricing, while offering a capable spec sheet. Last year, the brand launched the Panasonic P99, which was priced under Rs 8,000 and offered features like dual-SIM slots, 4G LTE and VoLTE (voice over LTE). And now it has launched its successor in the form of the P100, which has been priced even more competitively, so much so that it can be hailed as a game changer in the entry level. If you are wondering why we think so, read on to find out why Panasonic’s P100 stands out from the competition.

Let’s start with the core specifications of the handset. At the front, it sports a 5-inch display, which offers a resolution of 1,280 x 720 pixels. What sets the phone apart is that it’s among the very few devices in this category to come with a layer of 2.5D curved Corning Gorilla Glass to protect the screen against minor nicks and scratches. Moving on to the performance side of things, it’s powered by a MediaTek MT6737 processor, which is a quad-core unit clocked at 1.25GHz. Further, the chipset is backed by either 1GB or 2GB RAM depending upon the variant, with 16GB storage being a common denominator on both. Another highlight of the handset happens to be the presence of rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, which is a novelty at this price.

For imaging, the Panasonic P100 has been equipped with an 8-megapixel camera on the rear panel and a 5-megapixel shooter on the front. Both cameras on the handset have been accompanied with an LED flash, which means low-light imaging is not an issue whether you are taking a selfie or a regular picture. Moreover, the rear camera of the device flaunts a larger pixel size of 1.4μm, which means it can take in more light and capture better images even when lighting isn’t sufficient. There’s a multi-mode feature in the camera interface as well, which enhances the image according to the scene being captured.

In the software department, the smartphone runs the Android 7.0 Nougat with quite a few smart features integrated by the brand. There is a Pocket Mode, which increases the volume of the ringtone if the phone is in the pocket. Then there’s a Flip to mute feature, which lets users turn the phone silent with a simple flip. For security, there is an On Body Detection Mode, which prevents the smartphone to go to sleep when it’s in hand but locks it at other times. Other interesting features include Trusted Places, Trusted Face Mode and Trusted Voice Mode, which are self-explanatory.

By now, it is pretty clear that the Panasonic P100 is as loaded as it gets in the entry-level segment. But what sweetens the deal further is its price tag. The 1GB RAM variant has been priced attractively at just Rs 5,299 and the 2GB RAM model at just Rs 5,999.

The whole package with an HD display, decent hardware, interesting software features, imaging capabilities and of course, the price, makes the Panasonic P100 an impressive offering. If the smartphone has grabbed your attention, it’s up for grabs exclusively on Flipkart and is being offered in Blue, Black, Gold and Dark Grey colours.
