Over 100 Million Facebook User’s Details Leaked Online

Yet again the social networking firm Facebook has been accussed of negligence over its user’s data. If you are a Facebook user, then it’s time to worry about your personal details, including your phone numbers, email id etc, which which you have shared with Facebook. The buzz is that over 100 million Facebbok profiles containing their personal information are now available as a 2.8GB torrent download. Canadian security consultant Ron Bowes of Skull Security used a Web crawler programme to search Facebook’s open access directory, where all information is kept. He, then, collected data from public profiles of Facebook users who have chosen not to change their privacy settings. images Later, he compiled list which was then made available for download via sites such as Bit Torrent and Pirate Bay. Now, due to this, any internet user can download the data and view the information. On this, Bowes said that he wanted to raise awareness of the “scary privacy issue”. “I can find the name of pretty much every person on Facebook…Once I have the name and URL of a user, I can view, by default, their picture, friends, information about them, and some other details. If the user has set their privacy higher, at the very least I can view their name and picture.” However, Facebook said it was investigating the methods used to collect and publish the material but stressed that private data had not been compromised.  “In this case, information that people have agreed to make public was collected by a single researcher,” Facebook said in a statement. “This information already exists in Google, Bing, other search engines, as well as on Facebook. No private data is available or has been compromised.”
