“Over the years, OPPO has associated itself with several celebs to connect with India’s youth”

Did you know that India is said to have the world’s largest youth population with more than 50 percent of its citizens below the age of 25 and more than 65 percent below the age of 35? Therefore, in order to connect with the masses in the country, brands associate themselves with youth icons. OPPO seems to have its strategy down pat as it has associated itself with two of the biggest things an Indian youth is crazy about – Bollywood and cricket.

Since its foray in the subcontinent, OPPO has associated itself with the Indian cricket team as well as various superstars. For its latest launch, the brand partnered with popular Bollywood star, Siddharth Malhotra, to introduce the OPPO F5 in a Dashing Blue colour. In fact, did you know that for the first-time ever in the Indian smartphone industry, a brand released a short film for the launch of its device? That made us think about all the special-edition smartphones it launched till now. So here’s a list of all celebrity-endorsed smartphones from OPPO, which has helped it go closer to the youth.

OPPO F1s Diwali Edition

When OPPO ventured in the Indian market in January 2014, it signed Hrithik Roshan and Sonam Kapoor as its brand ambassadors. The combination of Bollywood’s heartthrob and fashionista ensured that it entered with a bang. Together, the celeb duo appeared in a lot of TVCs by the brand and helped OPPO gain momentum in the country. The showstopper for the duo was the OPPO F1s Diwali Edition, which was launched ahead of one of the most popular festivals. The device offered a gilded logo resembling the flame of a Diya and laser-etched autographs of both stars on the rear panel. In terms of the spec sheet, the device offered a 5.5-inch HD display, 1.5GHz MediaTek MT6750 octa-core SoC, 3GB RAM, 3075mAh battery, 13MP rear camera, and a 16MP front camera.

OPPO F3 Black BCCI Edition

Just when the country was all pumped and excited for the Indian cricket team ahead of the Champions Trophy 2017, OPPO went ahead and became the official sponsor of the team for five years. This was a smart move by the brand in a nation that considers Sachin Tendulkar as God and Cricket as one of the major religions. Taking its association further, it launched the F3 Black BCCI Edition, which flaunted BCCI logo etched on the rear panel along with with the signatures of Indian cricketing legends Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni and R Ashwin. This made the handset a collectable for cricket fans across the country.

OPPO F3 Deepika Edition

Last year, the tech giant signed up Deepika Padukone as its brand ambassador. In association with the beautiful and suave youth icon, it went on to launch the OPPO F3 Deepika Limited Edition. The smartphone was launched in Rose Gold hue with Deepika’s laser signature engraved on the back and a special logo with a letter D outside and a letter P inside. As for the spec sheet, it featured a 5.5-inch inch full HD display, 1.5GHz octa-core MediaTek processor, 4GB RAM, 64GB storage, Android Marshmallow, a 13MP rear snapper, 4G, VoLTE and a 3,200mAh battery. On the camera front, it sports dual 16MP + 8MP front shooters and a 13MP rear camera.

OPPO F5 Siddharth Edition

Keeping up with its tradition of signing up a leading youth icon, OPPO has now added Sidharth Malhotra to its family. With Sidharth, the brand has shot a complete short film (video above) motivating one to chase their dreams and making their own destiny. Shot by the critically acclaimed director, Mohit Suri, the OPPO’s smartphone played an integral role in this journey. The fact that the video has already garnered more than 16million views (at the time of writing) suggests how successful it has been in reaching out to the youth. The smartphone in question this time is the much-revered F5, in a stunning mirror finish with dashing blue hue. Along with an attention-catching design, it reflects light in vertical streaks which adds to its charm. As for the spec sheet, it remains the same as that of the regular variant. It gets a 6-inch FHD+ display, MediaTek’s octa-core SoC, 4GB RAM, 20MP selfie camera with advanced Beauty AI Recognition Technology, 16MP f/1.8 primary snapper and a 3,200mAh battery.

By no means, this is a comprehensive list. OPPO also launched the T20 edition of the F1, and most recently, it partnered with renowned fashion designer Masaba Gupta to launch the Rose Gold variant of the F3. All in all, it’s clear that with such partnerships, OPPO has managed to become a household name in the country.
