As we wait for OPPO to launch its next, the OPPO F7, in India on March 26th, the brand has silently added a new phone to its lineup in China. The latest launch from the brand comes in the form of OPPO A1, which is an affordable offering. Interestingly, the handset maker has skipped the fingerprint scanner on the new smartphone in favour of Face Unlock.

Coming to the spec sheet of the new smartphone, it ships with a 5.7-inch S-IPS display with HD+ resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. The chipset that powers the smartphone hasn’t been specified, but there’s 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. As mentioned before, the handset ditches the fingerprint scanner in favour of the face unlock feature. OPPO claims that the face recognition on A1 can capture 128 unique facial features, to ensure accuracy and speed.

Moving to the camera department on the handset, the OPPO A1 comes with a 13-megapixel shooter on the rear accompanied by autofocus functionality and LED flash. For selfies and video calling, the smartphone features an 8-megapixel camera equipped with a proprietary AI Beautification mode. While there is no word on the software platform, the smartphone comes with a gaming acceleration mode, which is designed to optimise memory usage while switching between multiple games. In terms of connectivity, the phone offers GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and 4G LTE. A 3,180mAh battery rounds up the spec sheet of the handset.

OPPO has launched the new smartphone in three hues – red, blue, and white. The smartphone will go on sale in China starting April 1st. The OPPO A1 has been priced at RMB 1,399 (~Rs 14,400) in China.
