In the ongoing World event, Nokia just added another member to its higly popular Asha series, the Nokia Asha 502. Priced $89, this budget smartphone will soon be available to buy in Asia-Pacific, Africa, Middle East and Europe. It is surely a nice addition to company’s portfolio in the emerging markets like India where Asha series does very well in term of sales.
Features wise, Nokia Asha 502 comes with a 3-inch LCD display. It sports a decent 5MP camera on the back along with LED flash support. Connectivity wise, the phone offers Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 3.0 options. Nokia has pre-loaded the device with Nimbuzz Messenger which is the first app supporting VoIP telephony. It will allow users to make low-cost domestic and international phone calls.
It comes with a new Asha user interface which Nokia claims to provide faster and easier sharing of images on multiple social networks. Nokia Fastlane feature present in the phone is a second home screen for the users to quickly access frequently used applications as well as deeper integration with their favorite social network.
Nokia has also added some touch based controls in the new Asha phones. For example, double tapping on display wakes up the device and swiping upwards opens the camera.
WhatsApp’s CEO Jan Koum also joined the live event and commented that WhatsApp messenger will be available to the Asha series devices starting next month.
