Nokia 3310 4G variant with VoLTE support goes official in China

HMD Global has quietly unveiled the 4G variant of the Nokia 3310 classic smartphone in China. The phone has appeared on Nokia China website complete with specs and images, but there’s no word regarding its price and availability at the moment. This is the third variant of the Nokia 3310 (2017) (review) after the 2G and 3G variants, which were launched last year. The new Nokia 3310 supports 4G and VoLTE (voice over LTE) for high-definition audio calls.

The Nokia 3310 4G is slightly different than the 3G and 2G models of the device in terms of specifications. The phone is powered by Alibaba’s YunOS, and comes with a fully-functional web browser, which can be quickly accessed by hard pressing the zero key. With 4G TD-LTE connectivity, the device features VoLTE HD voice calls. The handset comes with Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n connectivity, and also supports Wi-Fi hotspot functionality.

Design-wise, the Nokia 3310 4G is also slightly different than its predecessors. The phone’s front is quite similar to the earlier models, but at the rear, the speaker and LED flash have been relocated. The device offers a 2.4-inch display bearing a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels. There’s no word regarding the processor powering the phone. The handset comes in 256MB and 512MB storage variants, with support for microSD cards up to 64GB in size. For imaging, the Nokia 3310 4G has been fitted with a 2-megapixel camera at the rear, aided by an LED flash.

As for the other features, the Nokia 3310 4G offers large keys, and also gets a 3.5mm headphone jack. For entertainment, you get an MP3 player and FM Radio features. As of now, only the single-SIM variant of the device is listed on the brand’s website, but the phone is likely to come in a dual-SIM model as well. A 1,200mAh battery keeps the phone running, promising to deliver up to five hours of 4G calls, eight hours of 3G calls or 15 hours of calling on 2G networks.

The Nokia 3310 4G is listed on the brand’s website with two colour options including sky blue and black. However, the company is expected to launch more colour variants of the device at a later date. We expect the brand to reveal the pricing and availability of the device in the coming days. A recent report had suggested that Reliance Jio and HMD Global could join hands to launch the Nokia 3310 4G in India. The 2G variant of the Nokia 3310 was launched in India for Rs 3,310.
