Mobile Web Metrics – Feb 2010 by Admob

Admob is a mobile ad-network and was recently acquired by Google. Admob serves ads across 15,000 mobile websites and mobile apps. They have access to every ad request and the associated data. Based on the recent data, Admob has published a report on the mobile ecosystem! Some of the key observations/trends include Rise of smartphones [smartphones now account for 48% of admob traffic], Rise of Mobile internet devices [iPod touch and other devices such as Sony PSP and Nintendo DSi now account for 17% of admob traffic], Rise of iPhone OS [50% of admob traffic], spectacular growth of android devices [24% of admob traffic]. Top 5 android devices include Motorola Droid, HTC Dream, HTC Hero, HTC Magic and Motorola CLIQ. Top 5 feature phones include Samsung SCH R350, Nokia 3110c, Sony Ericsson W200i, Motorola RAZR V3, LG CU920. [According to Admob, feature phones are those phone that does not run android, iPhone, Symbian, RIM, Windows mobile OS, WebOS platforms or any identifiable platforms] Surprise trend: India is the second largest country in terms of mobile web traffic! Though it’s an encouraging sign, in terms of percentage and numbers we are way below the number 1 country US! US consumes 50.6% of mobile web traffic and India consumes 5.9% traffic. Long way to go..but a good start!
