Mobile Handset Sale to cross 251 million in India in 2013

Technology and Market research firm, Gartner Inc. predicts that mobile handsets sale will cross 251 million in the year 2013 in India. According to the research firm report, mobile phone industry in India is expected to grow at a rate of 13.5 per cent in 2013. The report says that sale in the year 2012 will be 221 million units. Gartner predicts that mobile handsets market will show steady growth and the sale would surpass 326 million units by the year 2016. The mobile market in India is very competitive and more than 150 manufacturers have been selling their products to end users in India. mobThe report informs that low cost mobile handset accounts for 91 per cent stake out of total mobile phone sales. The report states that increase in Smartphone market and continuous concentration of Global manufacturers on low priced handsets have put pressure on many local and Chinese manufacturers and they are struggling to maintain their share in the growing market. Gartner reports that companies like ZTE, Micromax, Karbonn Mobile and Huawei have been constantly expanding their Smartphone basket to compete with large global manufacturers like Samsung and Nokia, which acquire No.1 and 2 positions respectively in the Indian mobile industry. Report states that Samsung’s share in the Indian mobile market has risen from 15 per cent in the first quarter of 2012 to 49.8 per cent in the second quarter of this fiscal. Samsung has a good brand strength and wide product portfolio which allows the company to take advantage of the great opportunities in the Indian mobile market.
