MEIZU 16 and 16 Plus alleged spec sheet and hands-on image spotted online

“The MEIZU 16 Plus is expected to be a premium offering with triple rear cameras”

The Chinese handset maker, MEIZU celebrated its 15th-year anniversary with the launch of the MEIZU 15 and MEIZU 15 Plus in April. Even before the M15 duo went official, company’s founder Huang Zhang revealed that the next generation of these smartphones will be launched sooner than expected, around August. The upcoming MEIZU 16 and 16 Plus have been subjected to a number of leaks, including MEIZU 16’s purported live image. Now, the entire spec sheet of both the 16 and 16 Plus has been spotted on the Russian website, Mymeizuclub along with a live image showing off the fascia of the handset.

Taking a look at the leaked image first, the MEIZU 16 can be seen sporting the taller 18:9 edge-to-edge display with rounded corners. Notably, the MEIZU 15 and 15 Plus also featured the 18:9 display, but the duo didn’t sport any rounded corners. Further, the signature circular button on the chin seems to be missing. This suggests that the upcoming M16 siblings might feature a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and Super mBack, which could be a pressure-sensitive chip at the bottom edge of the display just like the M6s launched earlier this year. The previously leaked image did reveal that the M16 could come with a dual camera module at the rear and a glass build.

The latest leak also reveals that MEIZU 16 is likely to be powered by Snapdragon 845 chipset and will be offered in two variants – 6GB RAM + 64GB storage and 6GB RAM + 128GB storage. The smartphone is expected to ship with a 5.6-inch OLED display with support for 3D Touch and mEngine 2.0. In the optics department, the MEIZU 16 is tipped to offer 12MP + 20MP rear camera module and 20MP front camera. As per the leaked spec sheet, the smartphone will boot Flyme OS 7.5 and run on a 3,080mAh battery with fast charging support. The MEIZU 16 Plus retains the spec sheet of its sibling, except for a bigger 6.1-inch display, 3,600mAh battery, triple-camera setup with 12MP + 12MP + 20MP shooters and 128GB or 256GB of storage.

As for the pricing, the 64GB variant of the MEIZU 16 is expected to retail for RMB 2,999 (~Rs 31,800), whereas the 128GB model will set you back by RMB 3,299 (~Rs 35,000). On the other hand, the 16 Plus is tipped to cost RMB 3,699 (~Rs 39,000) and RMB 3,999 (~Rs 42,400) for 128GB and 256GB versions, respectively.
