LG Icon smartphone and Iconic smartwatch could debut in 2019

We recently covered news regarding South Korean tech-giant LG’s plans to rebrand its G-series of smartphones in order to better compete against rivals likeSamsung and Apple. Now, rumours of a brand new smartphone series from the companyhave surfaced online, giving us insights into the company’s possible portfolio for 2019.


According to well-known tipster Evan Blass, LG recently trademarked several listings for smartphone names in the database of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The company has filed a trademark for the LG Icon, LG Aicon, LG Aiconnas well as LG Iconic, which is presumed to be a smartwatch. While companies are known to trademark product names every now and then, the fact that LG is reportedly looking to rebrand its G-series could mean that we might see a brand-new Icon series of smartphones in 2019.

LG recently unveiled the V30 Plus (review) smartphone in the country which also featured a stark change in design when compared to its predecessor, the V20 (review). For the uninitiated, the LG V30 Plus ships with a glass-metal design and is powered by the latest Snapdragon 835 processor. The handset gets 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. It features a 6-inch P-OLED 18:9 display with a resolution of 1,440 x 2,880 pixels. In the camera department, the smartphone gets a pair of 16MP and 13MP sensors at the back, along with a 5MP sensor up front for selfies. The device is fuelled by a 3,300mAh battery and runs Android Nougat upon first boot.
