“The G5 sports a semi-modular design that lets you attach additional accessories to add functionality”

At MWC in February, LG unveiled its latest flagship smartphone dubbed the G5. The phone recently went on pre-order in India via Flipkart and major offline stores across the country. Today, the brand has finally launched the new G5 in India. One of the main highlights of the phone is its semi-modular design, which lets you attach several additional accessories called ‘Friends’ to add more functionality to the device.

The LG G5 (first impressions) flaunts a metallic design and a sleek profile measuring 7.7mm at its slimmest point. It gets a fingerprint sensor below the rear camera, which also doubles as the power button. The phone boasts a 5.3-inch QHD (2,560 x 1,440 pixels) display. It also gets an always-on display feature, which shows the essential notifications, date and time, while draining just 0.8 percent of battery each hour. Software-wise, it runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow with the latest LG UX on top.

Performance on the G5 is handled by the top-end octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, aided by 4GB of RAM. It comes with 32GB storage, which can be further increased by inserting a microSD card. For imaging, the phone sports a dual rear camera setup, featuring one 16MP 78-degree lens, and another 8MP 135-degree lens. The device also gets a laser autofocus system, a separate colour sensor and an LED flash on the back. For selfies, there’s an 8MP autofocus front-facing shooter. Connectivity-wise, it offers a USB Type-C port, 4G LTE with Qualcomm’s fast X12 LTE modem, NFC, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, and A-GPS. The handset is fuelled by a 2,800mAh removable battery that supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 technology.

The LG G5’s ‘Friends’ accessories include the CAM Plus, 360 VR, 360 CAM, Smart Controller, Hi-Fi Plus with B&O Play, Rolling Bot, and the Tone Platinum wireless headset. Apart from the modules, there’s also a semi-transparent mesh cover case called the LG G5 Quick Cover, which lets you take calls and control alarms easily without opening the case. The company has only launched the CAM Plus, 360 VR and 360 CAM in India, which are priced at Rs 6,500, Rs 21,490 and Rs 21,990 respectively.

The LG G5 comes in Silver, Gold, Titan and Pink colour variants, but only the former three are available in India. The phone has been priced at Rs 52,990, and is up for grabs on Flipkart. It is being bundled with a free spare battery and charging cradle worth Rs 3,499.
