Hotel Taj Gateway Agra aims to redefine traveller experience with its iTajGateway app

“The app has been developed in partnership with Delhi-based iTravelApps”

One of the biggest problem tourists face is to plan their trip to a new city in such a way that they don’t miss out on any worthy attractions. But more often than not, they have to rely on tour guides or the internet for info, and the results can be confusing and contradictory. For this very purpose, the Taj group’s Gateway Hotel in Agra has partnered with Delhi-based iTravelApps to provide a mobile app that offers complete information about Agra. Agra is one of the most popular tourist destinations in India, especially for foreigners, thanks to the Taj Mahal.

The app has a user-friendly interface with all the options such as hotel information, audio tours, sights, shopping, and tips among others present upfront. The very first option gives you information about The Gateway Hotel in Agra. Audio Tours is an interesting feature allowing you to listen to details about the important monuments of Agra. The audio tours give complete and well-researched info about the place and also eliminates the need of hiring a tour guide. This way, a tourist can explore the place at his or her own leisure, and also come across some interesting facts about the location in terms of history, design, and more. In case you don’t want to listen, you can also read the transcript. While the app has audio-based guides for a few places, you can see all the popular locations through the Sights option. For shopaholics, the app also lists shops that must be visited. Both Sights and Shopping options can be sorted or filtered on the basis of ratings and distance.

Based on the hotel’s own experiences, where guests find it difficult to navigate Agra and more importantly, find the way to the Gateway Hotel, the app has a navigation option built right in. It provides turn-by-turn directions from Delhi to Agra, and to the hotel. It also has a Maps feature, where you’ll be able to see all the locations in map view. One useful feature is the Practical Tips offering you shopping tips, do’s and don’ts, etc. along with Agra’s history, how to reach Agra and locations of money exchange centres and government tourist offices.

The app also give you an option to save a sight or shop as a favourite or share it with your friends over social media channels.

Some of the features of the app do overlap with Google Maps or internet-based search results, so you may ask what sets this app apart? It can work completely offline, which is really good news for travellers as they won’t be bearing huge roaming charges for data connectivity. The app downloads all the content beforehand, so make sure you are in a Wi-Fi zone or at the comfort of your home to download the 140MB file for offline usage.

Though the app is made in partnership with The Gateway Hotel, it can be used by anyone and not just the hotel’s guests. Going forward, the app will be updated to include the ability to just download the features you need instead of downloading a huge file at one go. Another interesting feature to be added is ‘Explore’ suggesting the lesser-known, yet must-visit locations to visit in Agra. Based on the response to this app, The Gateway Hotel will also develop city-wise apps for all places where it has presence.

The iTajGateway app is available for free for Android as well as iOS devices.
