“The Hot 6 Pro is a budget smartphone that tries to tick all the right boxes”
Ever since its debut in the Indian market, Hong Kong-based Infinix has been consistently launching capable smartphones priced under Rs 10,000. The latest smartphone from the brand comes in the form of the Hot 6 Pro, which has been priced attractively at Rs 7,999. We managed to get our hands on the smartphone and here are our initial impressions.
Starting with the packaging, the Infinix Hot 6 Pro comes in an attractive blue box, with the images of the handset on top and core specs listed at the back. Upon opening the box, you are greeted by the handset lying on top of a compartment which contains some documentation, a power adapter, a micro-USB cable and a SIM ejector tool. A welcome addition in the package comes in form of the complementary smoky protective case and a PET screen protector. Also, the brand must be commended for providing a flat micro-USB cable, which shouldn’t get tangled easily.
Moving on, the smartphone features a plastic build but you could be fooled into thinking that it’s made of metal owing to its finish. The weight is evenly distributed and the curved edges on the back make the Hot 6 Pro pretty ergonomic. The device features a minimalistic fascia and is dominated by an 18:9 display, though there are sizeable bezels on the top and bottom. The rear panel is home to the horizontally-stacked dual-camera module, and a fingerprint scanner. The fingerprint reader is quite fast and accurate, although it sits flush with the body and is hard to locate at times. That said, muscle memory should be able to solve that issue over time.
The power and volume buttons are located on the right spine of the handset and offer tactile feedback. The left spine is home to the SIM card slot, whereas the micro-USB port, loudspeaker grille and a 3.5mm audio socket can be found at the base. Notably, the Infinix Hot 6 Pro has a dedicated microSD card slot, which ensures that you don’t need to let go of the second SIM to expand the storage.
Coming to the display, the Infinix Hot 6 Pro sports a 5.99-inch display with 1,440 x 720 pixels resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. The panel is pretty sharp and has good viewing angles as well. The phone also comes with features like eye care and an ambient mode. Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by a Snapdragon 425 processor backed by 3GB RAM. The phone ships with 32GB storage onboard, of which around 24GB storage is available to the end user. In our brief stint with the handset, it didn’t show any signs of lag even when we had multiple apps opened, and it switched between them quickly as well. The Hot 6 Pro boots XOS 3.2 custom skin based on Android Oreo and comes with a fair share of bloatware. While some of these like Flipkart and PHX Browser can be uninstalled, others like XClub can’t.
Moving to the imaging department, the Infinix Hot 6 Pro comes with a 13MP + 2MP dual camera setup on the rear panel accompanied by a dual-LED flash. The camera flaunts various modes like HDR, live filters, beauty, night mode, time lapse, professional and portrait. While the initial shots we took looked good, we particularly liked the portrait mode. The edge detection is impressive for the smartphone for its price and it also lets you change the focus point and intensity of the blur, after the image has been clicked. For selfies, the phone gets a 5MP shooter with a soft LED flash, as well as portrait and beauty modes. A 4,000mAh battery powers the show.
By now, it’s clear that the Infinix Hot 6 Pro is a feature-rich smartphone for its asking price. You get a tall display, dual rear cameras, and a decent processor, with a powerful battery to fuel the package. The smartphone goes up against the likes of the InFocus Vision 3 (first impressions) and Xiaomi Redmi 5 (review) and seems to pack in enough to hold its ground.
