India’s GSM subscriber base growing-crosses 664 million mark

GSM or the Global System for Mobile communication has become extremely popular in India by adding  6.87 million users in March and hence showing a growth of 1.04 per cent. Total GSM users in Feb was 657.22 million which became over 664 million in March. GSM offers more advantages to its users. It is a mature network that means it is a more stable network with more robust features. Talktime is more in GSM phones due to the pulse form of transmission. Also its  signal does not deteriorate inside buildings. Users can switch to networks and handsets at their own will due to Subscriber Identity Modules. One main feature of this is that  GSM is present worldwide  so international roaming is also not a problem. Bharti Airtel the leader in mobile services is topping the list by adding over 2.5 million users. This data was released by Cellular Operators Association of India. Closely following Airtel is Idea Cellular which increased its users by 2 million.  Airtel has 181.28 million while Idea has  112.72 million subscribers. Uninor added 1.3 million user and now has a total of 42.43 million users while Vodafone added 1 million subscribers thus having a total of 150.46 million users. BSNL(Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd) added 8,92,900 users and has a total of  94.68 million users MTNL added 62,399 to have a total of 5.59 million users. GSMs popularity against CDMA is turning out to be a boon for Bharti Airtel and Idea Cellular. Also their excellent services have made them what they are today. Others should take lessons from them.
