HP Buys Mobile Music Firm Melodeo

After acquiring struggling smartphone major Palm for $1.2 billion, the IT major HP has now bought a provider of mobile podcasting solutions Melodeo Inc. for approximately between $30 million and $35 million. With this acquisition, HP becomes a player in mobile music services directly challenging the leader in this segment Apple Inc. shaking-handsMelodeo’s main product is nuTsie — a service that enables to scan your iTune library and allows an access to those playlists on your mobile device in shuffle mode. This service is available on several platforms including Blackberry, Android and Windows Mobile. “HP’s acquisition of Melodeo is another example of our efforts to bring new, innovative technologies to market. We are excited about the potential of this technology to bring the power of cloud-based delivery services to millions of customers,” says HP. This piece of news confirms one more addition to HP’s new expansion strategies which is helping the company to expand its portfolio from servers, PCs, printing, telecom and now music.
