“The Google Home Mini is a pocket-sized smart speaker that is powered by the Google Assistant”
Last week, 91mobiles exclusively reported that Google is planning to launch the Google Wifi mesh router in India next month in April. Now, we’ve learned from industry sources that the Mountain View giant is prepping to release the Google Home Mini smart speaker in the Indian market in April as well. The device is expected to launch alongside the Google Wifi mesh routers. Our source suggests that the brand could also release a couple of other smart home devices in April.
For the uninitiated, the Google Home Mini is a compact smart speaker powered by Google Assistant. The device was unveiled at the company’s event in San Francisco last year in October. It has been constructed using a mesh/fabric material and comes with four LED lights on top which notify users when it’s being used. The Home Mini can play music, and can also be used to perform a number of tasks by using voice commands. Some of these include making voice searches, getting updates on news, weather and commutes, and the ability to control other IoT-enabled devices in your home.
The Google Home Mini has been priced at the equivalent of around Rs 3,000 in the US, and is being offered in three hues – Charcoal, Chalk, and Coral. We should have the details on Indian pricing and availability in a few days, so stay tuned.
In related news, we have found references to KaiOS in the Google Home app for Android. Could it be that Google is planning to add support for KaiOS-powered phones like the JioPhone (first impressions) and Nokia 8110 4G (first impressions) to its smart home devices like the Chromecast, Google Home and Google Home Mini in the near future? It would certainly be interesting to see if Google’s upcoming smart home products in India could be made compatible with not only smartphones but smart feature phones as well.
