Thanks to the ever-growing popularity of social networking site Facebook in India, the company today announced the launch of ‘Facebook for Every Phone mobile application’ in 3 new languages — Hindi, Malay and Vietnamese, including 7 local Indian languages — Gujarati, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, Punjabi, Bengali and Marathi. The new vernacular apps will be rolled out in phases in a few weeks.
The ‘Facebook for Every Phone’ app was originally launched in July 2011. The app allows Facebook users to view and upload photos to Facebook and also find friends from their contacts- all from the comfort of their mobile phone. The app currently works on 3,600+ Java-enabled phones all over the world. The app will support 2,500+ devices and work smoothly on 2/2.5G networks, giving feature phone users a smartphone experience.
This app will bring the popular features of Facebook, previously available only in English, in Hindi to over 50 million active Facebook users in India.
In order to download the app, visit m.facebook.com and scroll down to the download link, or enter d.facebook.com/install directly into your mobile browser. The Facebook app is also available in leading app stores, like the Nokia Store and several independent app stores like GetJar, Appia, and Mobile Weaver.
Mr Kevin D’Souza, Country Growth Manager, Facebook India, said that there are over 50 million people in India on Facebook, and thus the company wants to ensure that every user has a “great Facebook mobile experience” on any device that he/she uses.
