DoT Bans Nokia Pushmail Service

Department of Telecom (DoT) banned the Nokia proposed services, Push mail or Power mail. This messaging service will allow the users to access multiple email accounts and communicate through the same. Now, Government is very keen in monitoring the email and messaging systems communicated through mobile phones. Nokia-Messaging“In view of the Intelligence Bureau’s report, Department of Telecommunications is requested to advice the Telecom Service Providers not to launch Nokia’s proposed pushmail/powermail service without putting in place monitoring facilities to the satisfaction of the LEAs,” Ministry of Home Affairs said in a communication to Department of Telecom. This is not the first time where Government is keen in email services. There was an earlier instance with BlackBerry Enterprise mail services. The Government asked BlackBerry Smartphone maker RIM (Research In Motion) to come with a satisfactory solution to intercept its Enterprise mail services gave time till march 31st. The time lapsed and there is no solution resulted till time. Now, its Nokia’s turn, let us see how they handle this issue. Reports claim that nearly 50 percent of Nokia’s E-Series business phone owners in the country using this email service.
