Datawind recently announced completing the delivery of 1 lakh units of Aakash tablet to Indian government. 98000 of these tablets were Aakash 2 and 2000 units were what Datawind proposes as Aakash 3. Mr. Suneet Singh Tuli, CEO, Datawind recently hinted reporters in a statement that the committee behind Aakash Tablet is looking for the next version and Datawind is ready to offer them its existing Ubislate 7C+ as Aakash 3 for half the price. Note that Datawind is selling Ubislate 7C+ for a price of Rs 4999 and offering it as Aakash for half the regular price. However, Mr Tuli also mentions that the aforesaid price will be applicable for the slot of 10 lakh units. Datawind also mentions on its website that the Aakash 3 is expected to launch by the mid of 2013 with a recommendation that it should also include an embedded cellular modem in order to accommodate a regular SIM and provide internet connectivity (a SIM slot). “The third generation of Aakash is expected to be launched in mid-2013. The specifications are expected to be finalized by the NMEICT (National Mission for Education through Information Communication Technology) before end of March 2013. DataWind recommends that Aakash 3 also include an embedded cellular modem, allowing it to take a regular SIM and provide anytime/anywhere internet connectivity.” Mentions Datawind on its website.
