Coolpad Dazen X7 unboxing: a gander inside the retail box

“The Dazen X7 comes as the premium offering from the brand that has just entered India”

Coolpad has just entered the country, and right from the get-go, is aiming to rule the budget 4G smartphone category with the Dazen 1 (unboxing | first impressions). This is an affordable offering that targets stalwarts such as the Lenovo A6000 Plus (review) and the Xiaomi Redmi 2 (review), and anticipating heavy demand, the brand has chosen to take the flash sales route for it. However, the more premium Dazen X7 (first impressions) will be available via open sales, and that indicates that Coolpad seems to strategising well… given that it still has to find its feet in the country and dazzle potential buyers before they queue up to buy its products.

At first glance though, the X7 ticks most boxes, including a stylish design and reasonable specs. We’ll wait and watch how it plays out for the new brand, but for now, let’s just take a gander at the retail box and the set of accessories packed inside.

Unlike the budget Dazen 1 that comes in a brown cardboard box, the X7 comes packed in a compact, square-shaped white box that looks more premium in keeping with the positioning of the device. There’s Dazen X7 emblazoned on top, while the rear holds the label with the regulatory information and pricing.

The smartphone lies inside, resting atop a white plastic tray. Underneath, you’ll see a slim cardboard box on the right side, with a SIM ejection tool stuck on top. Inside this box, you’ll find a two-pin, 1A wall charger along with a micro-USB cable.

On its left, there’s an envelope that looks like it should contain some documentation, but we found it empty… but bear in mind that ours is a review device and hopefully, the retail packs should come with the usual leaflets. We couldn’t find any earphones included too.

So with that, we come to the end of this brief unboxing. We’ll quickly run through the key specs of the Dazen x7 for you. Priced at Rs 17,990, it sports a 5.2-inch full HD display and is powered by a 1.7GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6595 processor, aided by 2GB of RAM. There’s 16GB of storage, and another 32GB can be added via microSD. Since the X7 is a hybrid dual-SIM device, you can forgo memory expansion to instead insert a nano-SIM into it too. For shooting, you get a 13MP OIS rear camera with a 6P lens, f/1.8 aperture, and a dual-tone LED flash. There’s also an 8MP front shooter on board for selfies. A 2,700mAh battery powers the show. Notably, you also get 4G support. Do come back for more on the Dazen X7.
