“The BlackBerry Evolve and Evolve X comes as the latest all touchscreen offerings from Canadian brand”

Canadian handset maker, BlackBerry, recently launched the Evolve and Evolve X, not long after the launch of the BlackBerry KEY2 (review). These smartphones have been launched under the brand licensee Optiemus Infracom and are manufactured at Optiemus’ facility in Noida. While the BlackBerry KEY2 was the brand’s signature smartphone with a full-sized QWERTY keyboard, the Evolve duo comes as more conventional all-screen Android handsets. If you are wondering if you should pick up the new launch over other smartphones in the market, then you are at the right place. Here’s a lowdown of the top features of the Evolve and Evolve X.

A tall display to get more done

BlackBerry Evolve X

The BlackBerry Evolve duo are the first from the brand to come with the modern 18:9 aspect ratio. The handset maker has equipped the Evolve and Evolve X with 5.99-inch, 18:9 IPS LCD display that flaunts a screen resolution of 2,160 x 1,080 pixels. BlackBerry has also layered the displays on the latest launches with Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The latest generation protective layer is designed to protect the display from accidental drops and scratches. The larger screen estate results in a more enjoyable multimedia experience as well as app optimisation. Speaking of multimedia, the smartphones also come with Dolby Atmos curated sound output for an immersive viewing experience.

Quintessential BlackBerry Security

BlackBerry Evolve X

BlackBerry and enterprise-grade security have been synonymous with each other ever since the inception of the brand. The brand has retained the gridlock security even after its transition to Android ecosystem and the Evolve duo is no exception. The Evolve and Evolve X come with additional security measures from the kernel level to the app layer, including the brand’s DTEK app. The dedicated DTEK app constantly monitors apps to see which features are being used by them. You can see if a suspicious app is using your camera, access the calendar, read or edit contacts, access the device location and turn the microphone on, among others. The app also evaluates the security of your device and informs you if you have missed setting up security features on your device. In the age of cyber crime and increasing data theft threats, BlackBerry Evolve smartphones can be ideal for those concerned.

Dual cameras for powerful imaging

BlackBerry has always been an enterprise-oriented phone manufacturer and by the virtue of that, didn’t impress much in the camera department. However, that changed with the launch of the KEY2, which brought dual camera module to the BlackBerry lineup and now both Evolve smartphones continue the trend. The BlackBerry Evolve comes with a pair of 13-megapixel shooters on the back, featuring auto-focus, dual-tone LED flash and 2K video recording support. The X variant flaunts a 13-megapixel shooter accompanied by a 12-megapixel secondary shooter with the same set of features. For selfies, both devices get a 16-megapixel camera with dedicated LED flash. As such, these might be the first wave of BlackBerry smartphones to come with commendable imaging prowess.

Beefy battery to keep going

To be able to back the loaded spec sheet that both the Evolve and Evolve X come with, BlackBerry has equipped both with a massive battery. The BlackBerry Evolve and Evolve X are both equipped with a 4,000mAh cell to keep going. Moreover, these smartphones come with support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 Technology so charging up the battery takes no time. Further, for added convenience, the handsets also feature fast wireless charging.

While the Evolve and Evolve X are not the best smartphones around and could have used a tad aggressive pricing, they are still some of the best that BlackBerry has released lately. It’s clear that BlackBerry is targeting individuals who care about security that the brand provides and was seeking a more modern spec sheet than expected from BlackBerry.
