Top selfie smartphones priced under Rs 20,000

“We take a look at the best affordable selfie smartphones”

Smartphones these days come loaded with processors featuring eight or ten cores, and up to 6GB of RAM, but the one aspect where they fail to impress most buyers is in the camera department. Sure, spending upwards of Rs 40K could get you a capable pocket shooter but not everyone is willing to spend a premium on a device which will eventually get outdated in a year or two. With selfies being all the rage these past few years, smartphone manufacturers have had to tailor their devices to come with not just a good rear camera, but an equally capable or better front-facing shooter. If you are in the market for a smartphone that will help you capture that perfect selfie without burning a hole in your wallet, we have rounded up some excellent choices for you to consider. So without any further ado, let’s jump right in.

OPPO F1s (From Rs 16,799)

OPPO has been on the forefront of the selfie revolution in smartphones and already has three devices catering to the selfie-driven audience. The latest addition to the company’s selfie expert series has been dubbed the F1s and brings a 16MP front-facing shooter and a 13MP rear camera to the table. No, you haven’t read it wrong – the front camera on this phone is actually more powerful that the primary snapper. Owing to the huge 16MP sensor upfront, the F1s is able to capture some incredibly good stills even in low-light conditions, making it the ideal selfie companion. The software additions such as Face Beauty 3.0 technology allow users to get more out of the front camera too. The rest of the specs of the device include an octa-core MediaTek MT6750 chipset aided by 4GB of RAM. The smartphone packs a 3,075mAh battery and sports a 5.5-inch full HD display, which makes it a decent all rounder as well.

Gionee A1 (From Rs 19,999)

Gionee A1_3

While it is common for smartphone vendors to equip their devices with rear-facing LED flash units, Gionee went above and beyond to promise a great selfie experience to its users by furnishing its recently-launched A1 with a flash on the front. This gives the A1 a huge advantage over the competition as the smartphone eliminates the need for a well-lit environment to click selfies. The Gionee A1 doesn’t lack in other departments either and is powered by an octa-core MediaTek Helio P10 chipset mated with 4GB of RAM. The handset comes furnished with 32GB of onboard storage with room for further expansion up to 256GB via a microSD card and draws its fuel from a 4,010mAh battery. The smartphone runs Android Nougat 7.0 with a custom skin of Amigo UI on top. Interested buyers will have to shell out Rs 19,999 for the smartphone which is available for pre-booking now on the company’s official website.

vivo V5 (From Rs 16,100)

The recently-launched smartphone from vivo stands by the “go big or go home” motto and comes boasting a 20MP front camera with a ‘moonlight glow’ LED flash unit. The moonlight glow LED functions as a front-facing torch and can stay on for the entire duration of clicking a selfie. On the other hand, the primary camera of the smartphone has a smaller 13MP sensor which also has a separate LED flash. Shedding some light on the rest of the specifications of the device, the 5.5-incher comes with an HD resolution display and is powered by an octa-core MediaTek 6750 SoC. The phone features 4GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage which can be expanded up to 128GB via a microSD card. Fuelled by a 3,000mAh battery, this vivo retails for approximately Rs 19K.

The Lenovo Z2 Plus made headlines recently as it was the cheapest smartphone to come equipped with a Snapdragon 820 processor. However, that’s not all that the smartphone has going for it as it fares pretty well in the camera department as well. The Z2 Plus sports an 8MP primary camera and a 13MP rear shooter. While there are no huge megapixels or an LED flash backing the 8MP front shooter of the Z2 Plus, it still is a pretty good selfie camera with the stills captured from it reproducing colours accurately. The Z2 Plus is a compact smartphone too, and sports a 5-inch full HD panel. The smartphone comes in two different variants offering 3GB RAM and 32GB storage or 4GB RAM and 64GB storage.
