BBM for Android & iOS gets 20 million users in just a week after launch

BlackBerry has revealed that BBM for Android & iOS has received more than 20 million active users in the first week of official launch. More than 20 million Android & iOS device users have downloaded the app from the App Store and Google Play Store. However, company didn’t talk about the specific numbers, but BBM is said to be the top free application in more than 30 countries on the Google Play Store in the first week of launch. BlackBerry said that BBM is now having more than 80 million active users across BlackBerry, iOS and Android devices around the world.

It, looks like the Canadian manufacturer is enjoying the success of its chatting service on iOS & Android platforms too. “After the amazing launch of BBM on Android and iPhone devices, with more than 10 million downloads in the first 24 hours, BBM has now ended its first week with more than 80 million monthly active users, including over 20 million new users on Android and iPhone devices,” BlackBerry said.

BlackBerry also said that it is bringing video calling and voice calling support for the BBM in the coming months. It will also start BBM Channels – a new community building service to connect the users of the app even more broadly – to iOS and Android users. In related news, BlackBerry has announced that the BBM for iOS & Android will be free in the future too. Company’s executive vice-president, Andrew Bocking said, “It’s definitely a free service..We have other ideas on how to monetise the service.”
