“The ASUS X00RD could be the brand’s first Android Oreo (Go edition) device”
Last month, ASUS scheduled an MWC event to be held on February 27th at 7.30pm CET (12:00am IST). The brand is expected to launch the ZenFone 5 (2018), ZenFone 5 Lite and ZenFone 5 Max at the event, of which the ZenFone 5 Lite happens to be a budget offering. Now, it turns out that the brand is also working on an entry-level device bearing model number X00RD, which has been listed on benchmarking website Geekbench.
The specs revealed in the Geekbench listing points toward the device being an Android Oreo (Go Edition) smartphone. The upcoming smartphone runs on Android 8.1 Oreo (on which Android Go is based) and has 1GB of RAM. In the performance department, the handset gets Snapdragon 425 processor, which is a quad-core SoC clocked at 1.4GHz. The processor supports a maximum display resolution of 1,280 x 800 pixels, which means we can expect the handset to have HD resolution when it launches. The device scores 640 points in the single-core test and 1,664 points in the multi–core test.
Another entry level ZenFone 5 series smartphone was leaked in a couple of renders also shared by Quandt, earlier this month. The handset bore the model number X00PD and was seen flaunting an 18:9 display and dual camera module. The display on the device is speculated to measure 5.7-inch diagonally. It is being speculated that this smartphone will be powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 430 SoC clocked at 1.4GHz, coupled with at least 3GB of RAM. Running Android 8.0 Oreo, the smartphone is fuelled by a 4,000mAh unit.
We can expect the brand to launch both devices at MWC 2018. 91mobiles will be present on the floor at the event, so stay tuned.
