Asus Padfone Infinity and Fonepad Preview

Mobile World Congress 2013, Barcelona is a real platform that is meant to blur the lines between tablets and phones are blurring more than ever. Asus showcased two new phone-tablet hybrids on Tuesday at the international event, namely the Padfone Infinity and the Fonepad. You may get confused but these are not phablets but are full-sized tablet along with the capabilities of a phone. Padfonefonepad-6995_575pxPadfone Infinity The Padfone Infinity is a really nice device that is actually a 5-inch phone with a 441-ppi Super IPS LCD screen. Being very thin and light weight it does not compromise on its built quality and is pretty durable. The phone uses Android 4.2 along with a range of Asus apps preloaded, which includes a voice dialer, audio enhancer, and custom to-do and notes apps. It is powered by a 1.7-GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 chip. It has a 13-megapixel camera on the back and a 2-megapixel camera on the front to enable video chat. The interesting part is that when you slide the phone into a slot in the back of a tablet the 10-inch, 1080p tablet comes alive. However, the phone gives the tablet an odd bulge on the back. When you are in the tablet mode, an extra tab appears in the app drawer for tablet-only apps. The Padfone Infinity is really impressive, and could really click in the market if it was reasonably priced. But the phone and tablet will cost around £799 in the U.K, which makes it a rather extravagant buy. The Fonepad The Fonepad on the other hand is nice 7-inch Android tablet with voice calling capability. It is also reasonably priced at £179. The Fonepad is an Intel Atom tablet that runs Intel’s Z2420 processor. The tablet’s screen is also very bright with 1,280-by-800 IPS display. The Fonepad has 16GB of internal storage along with a memory card slot for memory extension. It has 1GB of RAM and a 1.2-megapixel camera on the front and seemed to be perfect, reasonably priced tablet.
