Apple’s educational app iTunes U crossed 1 bn download Milestone

Apple recently announced a free educational content app, called iTunes U. This app has been extremely successful with over billion downloads. The iTunes U app is designed with large online catalogue which is a free educational content from top schools, libraries, museums and organisations. Apple's educational app iTunes According to Eddy Cue, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Internet Software and Services, iTunes U said, ‘’it’s exciting to see what educators and students of all genres are doing with iTunes U. At present, there are iTunes U courses with over 250,000 students enrolled which are an amazing figure reflecting our excellent teaching methods.’’ It interesting to note that there is over 60% of iTunes U app downloads from outside US. This app is so amazing that educators can design iTunes U courses in 30 countries inclusive of Brazil, South Korea, Turkey and United Arab Emirates. These courses with many other interesting subjects can be viewed through iTunes U app in 155 countries. The app is designed with courses in over 1,200 universities and colleges and 1,200 K-12 schools and districts conduct over 2,500 public and thousands of private courses comprising of arts, sciences, health and medicine, education, business and many other interesting courses. Around 60 million contents is offered to students in premium universities of Duke, Yale, Cambridge, MIT and Oxford. Undergrad Courses are offered in subjects mentioned below through the iTunes U app

  • Pre-Calculus from the University of California, Irvine
  • Introduction to Genetics and Evolution from Duke University
  • Bioelectricity: A Quantitative Approach from Duke University
  • Calculus: Single Variable from the University of Pennsylvania
The other important course approved for developmental math vocational credit recommendation is Algebra from University of California, Irvine. Other universities offering online courses through this app are Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Open University and Alison. This is indeed a beneficial educational app with a strong figure of over one billion downloads.
