Airtel has launched an exclusive website dedicated to its upcoming 3G services. The site has a link on the Airtel portal and can be also accessed directly at www.airtel.in/3g. This indicates that the company is already geared up for 3G and will announce its launch any time. The website does not have any information on 3G tariffs, plans or specific services at the moment. However, it is full of information on the advantages of 3G, the value added services that will come with 3G and an FAQ section. It mentions that Video calling, Live TV and Mobile gaming will be some of the services that will be on offer. Airtel also has a compatibility-check page, where one can see if his handset is 3G enabled and whether it supports high speed access via HSPA. Airtel clearly recommends HSPA enabled handsets that can support speeds upto 21 Mbps over vanilla WCDMA (i.e normal 3G phones) that can only support data transfer upto 384 kbps. It is certainly good news for 3G starved subscribers who have been using advanced 3G handsets without the availability of 3G services.
